Sue was raised in a military family.  Her father served as an officer in the Air Force for thirty years, beginning his career as a B-17 bomber pilot in World War II.  He was based in England and flew missions over occupied Europe during the war and received the Distinguished Flying Cross upon his return home.  As a child, Sue lived in Taiwan, Germany, Washington, D.C., and various other places, including two tours of duty in Colorado Springs. She experienced diverse cultures abroad as well as here in her own country.  Although Sue didn’t have a hometown growing up in the military she has always considered Colorado home after her father retired in Colorado Springs while she was in high school.  Since then, she has lived along the Front Range in El Paso, Douglas and Larimer Counties.

As a resident of the Fourth Congressional District since 1997, Sue and her husband David live in Windsor.  Sue has three grown children, Derrek, Aaron, and Jenna.  Derrek, a graduate of University of Northern Colorado, lives in Boise, Idaho, with his wife Amy and two sons.   Aaron, a University of Colorado graduate, currently lives in Fairfax, Virginia, along with his wife Laura, and their son and daughter.  Jenna is currently a student at the University of Colorado in the School of Journalism, majoring in Broadcast News with a certificate in International Media.  Jenna served the Fourth Congressional District as a Page in Washington, D.C. as a high school junior.  Sue’s husband, David, is a Portfolio Manager in Fort Collins, as well as the President for the CU Parents Association (CUPA).  Sue currently serves on the Board of the Parent’s Association.
